Three Under-19s in senior cricket mix

Three Under-19 cricketers, Obed Mc Coy, Romano Pierre and Gidron Pope, are among a squad of 19 chosen ahead of the 2015 Windward Islands senior cricket tournament, set for here, August 20 to 26.{{more}}

They are in after selectors Roland Wilkinson, Wendell Glasgow and Lance John trimmed the original training squad of 28.

McCoy, a left arm fast bowler and Pope, a left- handed opening batsman are also in a West Indies Under-19 training squad for the 2016 ICC World Cup in Bangladesh.

Pierre, a left-handed batsman, guided St Vincent and the Grenadines to the top of the Windwards Under-19 tournament in Dominica last month.

While Mc Coy and Pierre are seeking a look in at the senior stage, Pope did so last year when the tournament was staged in St Lucia.

Pope went on to procure a development contract with the St Lucia Zouks in this year’s Caribbean Premier League.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines outfit will once again be led by wicketkeeper batsman Lindon James, with Alston Bobb as vice-captain.

The rest of the 19 include Sunil Ambris, Miles Bascombe, Atticus Browne, Shaquille Browne, Keron Cottoy, Romel Currency, Kenneth Dember, Dawnley Grant, Deron Greaves, Delorn Johnson, Ray Jordan, Desron Maloney and Kenroy Peters.

The squad, which is being coached by Deighton Butler and managed by Elvis Browne, will be melted to 13, which will be named August 17.

Matches are set for the Park Hill, Arnos Vale One and Sion Hill playing fields.

The fixtures show the host meeting Grenada at Arnos Vale One from August 20-21, while St Lucia battle Dominica at Sion Hill.

August 22-23, St Vincent and the Grenadines play St Lucia at Park Hill, while Dominica and Grenada tough it out at Arnos Vale.

The final round of matches sees St Vincent and the Grenadines facing Dominica at Arnos Vale and, at Sion Hill, it will be St Lucia versus Grenada.

St Vincent and the Grenadines last won the Windwards tournament in 2013.(RT)
