RSVG Police march off in North Leeward cricket defence

Defending champions of the Vinlec North Leeward Twenty/20 Cricket Competition have made a winning start to this year’s competition.

The unit from the local constabulary marched off confidently last Sunday at the competition’s venue, the Petit Bordel Playing Field, gaining a seven wicket win over Carlos James Starlight.{{more}}

Troumaca Starlight was undone for 71, as Parnel Browne grabbed 4 for 24.

RSVG Police then made 73 for 3; Kenneth Dember was 32 not out.

There were also victories for Petit Bordel Secondary School, Sharpes United and Carlos James Peto Stars in the opening round of matches, which got going last Saturday.

In a match reduced to 12 overs a side because of a late start, Petit Bordel Secondary School defeated 2013 winners Ruddy’s Electrical by four runs.

Petit Bordel Secondary tallied 116 for 8 off 12 overs. Alanzo Howe was the top scorer with 31; Rudolph Daize snared 3 for 36, bowling for Ruddy’s Electrical.

But Ruddy’s Electrical’s batting suffered a low voltage, as they could only power up to 112 for 7 from their 12 overs.

McNeil Morgan was the lone bright spark with 34. Mc Lenon Nash took 3 for 13, bowling for the students.

Also on Saturday, Sharpes United beat Coulls Hill Rangers by 75 runs.

Sharps United compiled 179 for 4 off 15 overs, as the match was reduced due to a late start. Rellon Mc Kie hit a top score of 72 not out and Husani Porter contributed 41.

Coulls Hill Rangers were restricted to 104 for 9 off their 15 overs; Angus Cyrus made 37.

There were two wickets each for Kerry Isaacs, Christopher Howe and Rellon Mc Kie.

And, Carlos James Peto Stars defeated Circumstance by five wickets on a net run rate in a rain interrupted match on Sunday.

Circumstance rallied to 143 for 7 off their maximum 20 overs. Hank Hall struck 71 not out.

Bowling for Peto Stars, Shamon Hooper picked up 4 for 28.

Peto Stars were 134 for 5 when rain ended play, with Peto Stars needing nine runs from 38 balls.

Shamon Hooper with 53 and Vidal Edwards, 34, were Peto Stars’ main contributors with the bat.

Another four matches are set for determination this weekend.(RT)
