Vincentian athletes off to 2015 CBN/WINLOTT Annual Windward Islands Schools Games
A contingent of 70, comprising 61 athletes and nine officials, left St Vincent and the Grenadines over the weekend for Dominica, to represent the nation in the 14th edition of the CBN/WINLOTT Annual Windward Islands Schools Games, scheduled to be held from July 27 through August 2.{{more}}
Godwin Martin, principal of the Bequia Community High School will serve as manager of the team and will be ably assisted by assistant manager Vernette Ollivierre, principal of the Union Island Secondary School. The management team also includes Kathleen Jeffers (chaperone), Aviann Myers-Spencer (basketball coach), Natasha Stapleton (netball coach), Richard Hayde (football coach), Vance Andrews (volleyball coach), Chester Morgan (athletics coach) and Sean Stanley (technical director).
The team will participate in five sporting disciplines, namely athletics, basketball (male and female), football, netball and volleyball (male and female).
The opening ceremony and athletics were held yesterday at Windsor Park, Roseau, while the other activities will be held in Plymouth at various venues, spread over the days of competition.
A release from the Ministry of Education said St Vincent and the Grenadines placed second behind perennial winners Grenada in last yearâs competition, but is âquietly confidentâ of copping the top prize this year.
The team is scheduled to return to SVG on August 3 and 4.
