SVG’s Blue Marlins Swim Club member grabs gold in Barbados meet

A member of the Blue Marlins Swim Club has come away from the 24th Annual Aquatic Centre International Swim Meet with a gold medal.

In addition to setting seven personal best times, Jayson finished in the top 10 in all of his races. This success comes on the heels of his silver medal in the 100 metre breaststroke in St Lucia two months ago.

“Jayson recently started competitive swimming. He returned to the sport after a two-year absence and in a matter of months he has made remarkable progress,” said Blue Marlins coach, Niesha Alexander.

The Blue Marlins Swim Club entered a team of five young swimmers – Kennice Greene, Jayson Sandy, Tristan Ballah, Bryson George and Kenalé Alleyne.

In the Boys 9-10 age group, Bryson George finished the weekend with three top 10 times and Kenalé Alleyne had one. In the Girls 8 and Under category, Kennice Greene also recorded three top 10 times.

All five swimmers set personal best times in the meet.

“I’m very pleased with the swimmers’ performance, considering that the Shrewsbury pool was closed for expansion and they were unable to use it for seven weeks prior to the competition,” said coach Niesha.

She added that this was the first time that four of the swimmers were competing in a 50 metre pool, but they were not intimidated by its size.

Twenty swim clubs from five countries battled each other over the three days of competition.
