A Grassroot Tennis Club team comprising Akeil De Roche and Rio Connell leave St Vincent and the Grenadines tomorrow, Friday, May 1, for Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the Caribbean Junior Invitational Championships, hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Association. The boys have been in training with head coach Trevor Sam to defend the title presently held by St Vincent and the Grenadines.

GTC top Junior Anthonio Cain won the tournament last year. De Roche and Connell will represent club and country, led by their GTC coach Trevor Sam.

This opportunity for the growth of tennis via the Grassroot Tennis Club is being lifted through the generosity of gracious donors from five continents and 18 countries: Austria, Canada, China, Columbia, Egypt, Germany, Holland, India, Italy, Iran, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, the USA and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Among the donors are Klaus Mueller, Munib Ahmad, Lixin Wang, Carlos and Marta Moreno, Sherif Ali Khalil, Khamis Eiss, Hisham El Basset, Rudolf Fleisher, Bernadus Michels, vice-president of the PDO Recreational Center and Johan Van Waveren.

Other contributors include Bavani Mishra and Shashikant Mahamane, Leonardo Marconi, Kuimars Jayrandour, Phillip Wayne, Majid Mandhari – president Tennis Section PDORC, Romeo and Nennette Tulop, Paulo Soares, Elvin Gaefer, Deidre Harvey, Mustafa Erturan and Kemal Hidir. The list is completed by support from John Meyers, Ehab Ibrahim and from Deron Grant.

GTC director Grant Connell says he is deeply grateful to the Grassroot Tennis Club’s newest friends – and now associate members of the GTC – remarking that because of GTC’s ambassador Deron Grant’s proactive work, these generous donors have facilitated GTC in representing St Vincent and the Grenadines at the tournament in Antigua and Barbuda once again, and participation in other regional tournaments, which is imperative for the development of the young tennis players.
