RSVG Police, Smashers take honours in Clinchers’ softball show

RSVG Police and Smashers took the high honours on Sunday when there was active play in the SVG Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers T20 Softball tournament at the Richland Park Oval.{{more}}

RSVG Police were asked to dig deep into their mental reserves to outlast Computec Cane End by three runs. The lawmen, on the back of 62 from Roderick John, reached 136 in 19 overs. John struck seven sixes and three fours, as he shared a 74-run opening stand with Mc Cleon Williams, who contributed 15. Randy Yorke struck 25, to stitch up the innings.

Danny Allen, 3 for 19, Ovando O’Brien, 3 for 27 and Alwyn Quashie, 2 for 37, led Cane End’s bowling. Cane End was restricted to 133 in response. Noel Carr struck 37 and former national footballer hit Alwyn Guy, 36. Carr laced five sixes, while Guy hit four sixes and a lone four.

Roderick John picked up 2 for 29, to clinch the Player of the Week accolade.

In Sunday’s other match, Smashers whipped Smart Strikers by 126 runs.

Smashers posted 184 for 8 in their 20 overs. St Claire Dickson lashed 55, inclusive of four sixes and two fours, while Delano Woodley’s 39 included three sixes and three fours.

Smart Strikers were dismissed for 58. Lorenzo De Grads top scored with 29, made up of three sixes and two fours.

Kaniel Richards grabbed 3 for 9 and Glenford Woodley, 3 for 13, bowling for Smashers. On Saturday Nice Radio Clinchers were handed their third victory, as ASCO failed to show when play was called.

The competition took a break last Easter weekend, but resumes this weekend.
