Simple Boys add Biabou Softball Cricket title to collection

Gairy’s Construction Simple Boys have added the Hairoun Beer Biabou Twenty/20 Softball Cricket title to their ever growing collection.

The Belair-Gomea based Simple Boys recorded a four-wicket win over Country Meets Town Out Ah Trouble in the final played last Sunday afternoon at the Biabou Playing Field.{{more}}

Elected to bat first, Out Ah Trouble never got their groove going, and were dismissed for 95 in 19.5 overs.

Rodney Lawrence struck three sixes in his top score of 28 and Sunil Ambris — 18, which included two sixes.

Vernardo Primus grabbed 4 for 24 and Travis Cumberbatch — 2 for 7, to lead the wicket taking tally for Simple Boys.

In the run chase, Stein Joseph had five sixes in a brisk 35; Elric Morris plundered three sixes in the 16th over, off the bowling of Javid Harry, in his 20 not out; and Jabarri Cunningham, 20, at the top of the order, powered Simple Boys to 101 for 6 in 16 overs.

Wesrick Straugh — 2 for 7 and Danny Allen — 2 for 14, were Out Ah Trouble’s most successful bowlers.

It was Simple Boys’ second title in two weeks, having previously retaining the Top Belair Progressive Organization’s competition.

For Edgerton Morris, the man who started the team 10 years ago, plans are coming together.

Morris told SEARCHLIGHT that the plan of the team is to go after the Lauders competition.

“We (are) accustomed to winning …We have won the Belair competition, we win the ASCO competition four years straight when it used to run; we won the Richland Park competition last year,” Morris related.

“Early in the new year, we going after the Lauders competition and after Richland Park too,” Morris projected.

The Lauders competition has the biggest pay-out in softball cricket competitions in St Vincent and the Grenadines, with the first place earning $4,000.

Two weeks ago, Simple Boys pocketed $3,000 for winning the Top Belair title and last Sunday, earned $1,200 for trumping the Biabou set-up’s first place.(RT)
