The lads from the North Central Windward completed the hat-trick of titles last Friday evening at the Girls’ High School.

GSSSS outlasted the Georgetown Secondary School 3-1(28-26, 27-25, 18-25, 25-21) to lift the 2014 edition.

The GSSSS players, led by their setter Jamal Small and Player of Final Brandon Smart, took the bulk of the fight to the Georgetown Secondary, who were prepared to compete and just simply not show up in the final.

But for coach of the triumphant team Kathleen James, it was their toughest challenge in the competition.

“It was our toughest challenge in the competition because we did not get this in the preliminary round… Georgetown really came out for us,” James commented.

James noted that her players wanted to make a statement.

“It is their last year… Most of them will be leaving school this year and they wanted to leave with the title,” James said.

James, who has been coaching the team for the second year, said that she has already identified some players to replace those who will be exiting the institution as she engages in her succession planning.

And, it was a double hat-trick, as it was also the third time in succession that the Georgetown Secondary was being beaten in the final of the competition, which started in 2012.

In reaching the final, GSSSS stopped the Petit Bordel High School, 2-0 (25-18, 25-15) in the semi-finals, while Georgetown Secondary overcame Bethel High School also 2-0(25-19, 25-11) in their match up of the last four.
