The premiership of the 2013-2014 National Club Football Championships is heading for a showdown.{{more}}

The race to the title was thrown wide open last Sunday, when the two front runners — System 3 and BESCO Pastures – both suffered losses at the Victoria Park on the night.

System 3 went under to Je Belle 4-3, thanks to goals by Thaddeus Velox — two (9th and 33rd minutes) and one each from Chester Morgan (25th) and Anson Bobb (60th).

System 3’s items came from Oalex Anderson (7th minute), Kyle Edwards (64th) and Shandell Samuel (90+).

In the second of the double header, Avenues was given another lifeline and another sniff at retention.

At the sound of the final whistle, Avenues remained the only unbeaten team in the competition, as a brace from Romano Snagg gave them a two-nil win over Pastures.

Snagg’s items came in the 44th and 48th minutes of the match, which promised much, but delivered little, as Pastures seemed out of sync on the night.

Pastures were at a numerical disadvantage for most of the match, after losing Elroy Adams in the first half, the consequence of a reckless tackle.

And, they were reduced to nine players to complete the match, as their captain Dorren Hamlett was ejected for a second bookable offence.

Other results on the weekend saw Hope International and Layou playing to a one-all tie on Saturday at the Sion Hill Playing Field, while the match between Prospect and Campdonia- Chelsea had to be abandoned because of heavy rains last Sunday afternoon also at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Prospect were leading one-nil.

After five rounds of matches played and two to go, System 3 and Pastures are on 10 points and Avenues nine.

The remaining fixtures for the top three see System 3 having to meet Hope International and Pastures, while Pastures also have GTM Prospect to engage.

Avenues still have Je Belle and Campdonia-Chelsea on their agenda.

Outside the window and peeping at the title is Campdonia- Chelsea who sit on six points with three matches in hand.

Meanwhile, System 3’s Azhino Solomon heads the goal scoring pack with 15 conversions.

The receiver of the $10,000 winner’s purse should be known by next weekend.

Current holders Avenues have won the title on three consecutive occasions. (RT)
