YB Ballers take New Year’s Day small goal football competition

Goals on either side of the half by Keith James and Kyle Peters were enough to land Young Bush Ballers the win, in the final over NWN Ballers of Choppins.

James, in the first half, side stepped the NWN Ballers’ defence before registering his shot.

Peters’ item was more fortuitous, as a clearance hit his person and rebounded into the net, to seal the deal in the second period of play.

The other participating teams were dethroned by champions Meldon Ballers, Young Strikers and No Nonsense Ballers.

The day’s activities also saw boys, 12 years and under, kicking for prizes, while the females of all ages did the same and the successful kickers were also awarded with gifts. All contributions for the day were donated by residents of the area, as well as businesses that operate in the Calliaqua district.

Organisers say that next year’s competition will see the injection of cash prizes for the three top finishers.(RT)
