C.K. Greaves disconnect Vinlec to claim Rotary Softball Cricket title
C. K. Greaves and Company took the high voltage from 2012 champions Vinlec, in last Saturdayâs finals of the annual Rotary Club South Independence Firms Softball Cricket Competition.{{more}}
Led by national female cricketer La Toya Providence, C.K. Greaves took first strike and recorded this yearâs highest score, 71, in the competition which took place at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex. Vinlec, in their response, was disconnected for 58, thus giving C. K. Greaves the title and the $1,200 winnerâs cheque.
In the semi-finals, C.K. Greaves saw off Bank of SVG. Scores: C.K. Greaves 63; Bank of SVG – 52. And, Vinlec stopped Rudyâs Electrical in a close contest. Vinlec scored 58 in reply to Rudyâs Electricalâs 54.
The competition began last month with 11 teams competing. Apart from the four semi-finalists, the other teams which participated were ECGC, CWSA, Scotia Bank, St Vincent Brewery Ltd, Voltz, the National Sports Council and Mustique Co. Ltd.
The preliminary round of the competition took a round robin format, with the teams stashed in three groups.
Six teams then emerged to the next phase. VINLEC, C.K. Greaves and Scotia Bank finished in group one and in group two: Rudyâs Electrical, Bank of SVG and CWSA.
The annual competition is one of the main sources of fund-raising for the Rotary Club of St Vincent South. (RT)
