Reigning schools’ volleyball champions to defend titles

The 2012 female champion of the Q-Care Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships – the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown and the reigning male division winner – the George Stephens Secondary School,{{more}} both have another shot of claiming the titles, when the 2013 finals are contested today, Friday, February 15, at the Girls’ High School hard court.

Opening the afternoon’s action from 3:15 p.m., will be the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, who face off with the George Stephens Secondary.

Both finalists had to go to three sets over their opponents in the semi-finals.

George Stephens Secondary overcame the Thomas Saunders Secondary 25-11, 24-26, 17-15, in the first semi-final.

Last Monday, the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown had to dig deep to outlast the Georgetown Secondary, but prevailed 25-21, 24-26, 15-10.

And, in a repeat of last year’s male final, George Stephens come up against the Georgetown Secondary, but both had contrasting wins in the semi-finals.

George Stephens had an uncomplicated 2-0 win, at the expense of Bethel High School, 25-9, 25-12.

On the other hand, Georgetown Secondary defeated Petit Bordel Secondary two sets to one: 25-18, 29-31, 15-11.

The third place play-offs were set for yesterday, also at the Girls’ High School venue.

Following today’s final, the presentation and closing ceremony will take place.(RT)
