Though not as successful as hoped, Coach Godfrey âFuzzyâ Harry told SEARCHLIGHT that the teamâs performance in the heats proves that the TSSS Penn Relay team âis a force to be reckoned with.â
âIt speaks volume for us, because compared to countries like Jamaica who were at the Penn Relays for more than 50 years, this is just the second year for Thomas Saunders and St Vincent and the Grenadines on a whole.
âPeople have to remember, you have to creep before you walk and I think that this is our creeping stages and we need to have the support of everyone throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines behind us, because this is a prestigious relay and we only can do better,â Coach Harry said.
The TSSS girls 4 x 100 meters and 4 x 400 meters boys relay teams both recorded victory in their heats, but according to Harry, their times were not good enough to move on to the finals.
The 4 x100m girls won their race in a time of 50.37 seconds while 4 x 400m girls finished in 6th position with a time of 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
The 4 x 100m boys relay team on the other hand placed second in their heat and the 4x400m boys team won their heat.
The athletes making the journey were Brandon Parris, Kerina Hooper, Nicky-Ann Stephens, Maranda Spencer, Kezlon Providence, Desron Wilson, Shaquile Browne, Shafiqua Maloney, Abiola Hinds, Rosannia Stephens and Ronique Dowers.
Traveling with the athletes were: Coach-Godfrey âFuzzyâ Harry, Assistant Coach-Kamal Hunt, Manager-Paulette Williams and Chaperone-Dawana Balcombe.
