Rising Stars, Young Blazers reign in Bequia Basketball

Bequia Tech Rising Stars ended Duke’s reign as First Division Champions of the Bequia Basketball Tournament winning the best of three series 2-1.{{more}}

It was come from behind win for Rising Stars, who lost game one 62-69. Keitroy Lavia with 23 points was the hot hand for Duke and for Rising Stars, Danroy Bess sank 19 points.

But in game two last Saturday night; Rising Stars rebounded to push the finals to a game three on Sunday.

On Saturday it was a close 59 to 57 final score, with the leading scorer for Rising Stars being Kirstin Lampkin with 12 points, but it was Duke’s Jonas King who had a game high of 24 points.

In the grand finale last Sunday night, two points again separated the teams, with Rising Stars scoring 56 to the 2010 champions’ 54.

Player of the Final, Kristin Lampkin reeled off 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help lift the 2011 title.

Jonas King was again the lead scorer for the dethroned Duke with 18 points.

But in the Second Division, Young Blazers blocked out 71 to 59, to win 2-0.

In last Saturday’s second and final game, Player of the Final, Toryann Tannis scored 18 points for Young Blazers, and Wizards’ Xavaghn Dennie hit 17 points.

In game one, last Wednesday Tannis sank 14 points for the victors and for Wizards, Orlando Blugh and Akim King both scored 14 points, as the game ended 61-55 in Young Blazers’ favor.
