Kerosene Lamp Foundation back at it for another year

“By pairing the popular sport of basketball with educational messages, we have created a unique and fun-filled approach that resonates with young people,” said the Canouan-born NBA veteran Adonal Foyle. “We are promoting the development of student-athletes who can successfully transfer the skills they learn on the basketball court into the classroom.” The Camps are led by Foyle, with assistance from a mix of coaches from America and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Apart from valuable life lessons and skills, youths will receive free books, t-shirts, and goody bags to take home.

Alongside KLF’s traditional day-camp in Canouan on July 25, Foyle is initiating a special All-Star edition of the Camps for one hundred children throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The children will come together for three days to learn basketball skills, HIV/AIDS awareness, nutrition, leadership, sports psychology, how to improve their readings skills and more. KLF will select a few star performers from the Camp to participate in their All-Star Student-Athletes mentorship program which was launched in 2010.

“After holding our Athletics & Academics Camps over four summers, we felt ready to start working with SVG youths year-round through the All-Star Student-Athletes Mentorship Program,” said Adonal Foyle.

“I think helping young people identify positive role models to guide them through some of life’s hurdles is a critical next step in our quest to develop the next generation of leaders, and KLF is fortunate to have found some truly dedicated persons to serve as mentors.”
