Mayers headlines Vincentian team to CAC Seniors
Reigning Commonwealth 100m Womenâs champion, Vincentian Natasha Mayers will headline this countryâs team to the 23rd edition of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Championships, set for Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, from July 15 to 17.{{more}}
Mayers, who gained this countryâs first Commonwealth Track gold in India last October, leads a team which also includes Kineke Alexander, a 400 m specialist.
Alexander medalled at the 2006 CAC Seniors, held in Cartagena, Colombia, placing third in her pet event.
The Vincentian contingent also includes durable long distance runner Pamenos Ballantyne, who also has experience at participating in the CAC Marathon. In 2006, Ballantyne placed tenth.
The other members of the team are Courtney Bascombe, Courtney Williams, Yurnic Nanton, Amail Samuel and brothers, Keron and Lawrence Arthur.
Travelling with the team are Alrick Wright and Michael Ollivierre.
All except Mayers and Ballantyne are fresh from representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines in overseas meets, as preludes to the more competitive CAC Seniors.
Keron Arthur, Williams, Bascombe, Samuel and Alexander participated last month in the St. Kitts National Championships.
Also last month, Lawrence Arthur, Williams, Samuel, Bascombe, Nanton and Alexander formed part of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team to the Barbados National Championships.
The participation of our local athletes at St. Kitts and Barbados National Championships, is a direct result of this countryâs lack of a synthetic track on which to ply their trade. (RT)
