Brownie packs compete in District sports
The district Brownie sports commenced on Saturday, March 19, at the Grammar School playing field where the Kingstown Government School Brownie Pack emerged winner from among six Brownie packs. These were Lodge Village, Petersville, Kingstown Anglican, Kingstown Government, St. Maryâs RC #22 and St. Maryâs RC #2.{{more}} The second place was taken by the St. Maryâs R.C #2, and there was a tie for third place between Lodge Village and the Kingstown Anglican Brownie packs.
On Saturday, March 25, two other districts held their sports; one at the Girl Guides Headquarters grounds and the other at the Sion Hill playing field. The Sion Hill Brownies were winners in their district from among five packs, namely Brighton, Calder, Calliaqua, Fair Hall and Sion Hill; second was Brighton and third was Calliaqua. At this function, Theckla Browne donated a prize for the most disciplined pack and this was given to the 1st Brighton Brownie pack.
The #12 Kingstown Preparatory school Brownie pack won in their district, having competed among four packs, namely #5 KPS, #25 KPS, #12 KPS and CW Prescod Brownies. In second place was C.W. Prescod pack and third was the #5 Kingstown Preparatory School brownie pack.
The activities involved for all sports event were 60 metre, 100 metre, 4×100 metre relay, needle and thread, wheel barrow, three-legged race, lime and spoon, sack race, obstacle race, bean bag and hoopla.
These winning packs, Kingstown Government, #12 Kingstown Preparatory and Sion Hill will now enter the finals next term to vie for the Renee Baptiste trophy, which is currently held by the 1st Sandy Bay Brownies.
Chief Commissioner Althea Commissiong and Brownie Commissioner Jacqueline Soso-Vincent were also present, and gave brief remarks.
