Battle lines drawn for National Relay Classic
One of the most anticipated events of the Track and Field calendar of Team Athletics SVG will take place on Saturday, when the National Relay Classic comes off at the Victoria Park.{{more}}
The show down will involve several secondary and primary schools, which are preparing for the annual Inter Secondary Schools and the revived Zonal Primary Schools Championships.
Also, the rivalry should be intense among the two major clubs, X-Ceed and X-Cel, as supremacy is sought among the open categories.
Many are persons are hoping to see the Thomas Saunders Secondary School outfit, which is preparing for this countryâs first entry in the prestigious Penn Relays, in April, in the USA.
Saturdayâs event is a culmination of two warm-up events in December and January and, based on last monthâs turn out, the real deal is expected to draw out a better participation.
The December warm-up took place at Arnos Vale Two, while last monthâs was staged at Arnos Vale One, thus providing the athletes with different venues and configurations.
The Relay Classics would see competition in the 4 x50M event for the Under-7 and Under-9 categories.
The 4x100M has competition in the Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-14, Under -17, Under -19 and Open categories.
The 4 x 250M is set for the Under-11, Under-14, Under-17, Under-19 and Open groupings, while the 4x400M is restricted to Under-17, Under-19 and Open participation.
Medley Relays will also be staged for all age groups, with the Under-7 and Under-9 doing two legs of 60M and two legs of 125M.
Athletes participating in the Under 11 and Under-14 categories will run two 125M and two 250M races, while the Under- 17, Under-19 and Open categories will participate in 250M, 500M , 750M and 1000M races.
And, as an added treat to the Relay Classic, the finalists of last Saturdayâs inaugural Hurdles Classic will have a face-off in Saturdayâs events.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top finishers in this Saturdayâs mega event. (RT)
