Grassroot Christmas Junior Tennis Tournament ends today

The SVG General Services Grassroot Tennis Club Christmas Junior Tennis Tournament concludes today Thursday, December 23 at the Haddon Hotel Courts at Murray’s Road.{{more}}

Following last Saturday’s opening ceremony, the newest Tennis club got its first tournament started.

The tournament is one of a developmental nature, with the aim of giving the relatively new players a taste of some form of competitive Tennis.

Players under the age of five; 6 and under, and under-8, participated in a skills contest, while those in the 10 and under, and 12 and under categories showpieced their Tennis abilities.

In matches played on Monday, December 20, in the 10 and Under Boys, Randel Williams defeated Shamron Da Souza 14-6; Nasiyo Providence got past Shaquan Thomas 108, with Antonio Cain whipped Tyrese Williams 16-4, J’ vonte Creese over Omari Laborde 12-10, and Sauvy Samuel Thomas beat 17-7.

In the female 10 and under category, Rone Gurley beat Aaliyah Lowman 13-6, Ranesia Lampkin beat Zaria James 12-10, so too did Kamara Williams over Anna Lowman 8-6, with the seasoned Gabrielle Benn toppling Krishnel Rogers 17-5. Amarlie Benn disposed Gurley 16-6 and Rogers bet Anna Lowman 13-6.

Kareem Cornwall defeated Malik Culzac 19-8 in the boys 12 and under category. Richard Hoyte humbled Cornwall 11-8, with Tyrese Williams silencing Javari King 15-7 and Hoyte blazed Culzac 12-8.

In the girls 12 and under, Alexi Humphrey scored a 15-11 win over Delisa Fernandez; Krishnel Rogers beat Samika Mitchell 16-7; Tasheka Anthony defeated Lejun Williams 14-7 and in a clash of the Williams, Zaria whipped Shania 12-9.

This afternoon’s Closing and Presentation Ceremony will be preceded by a sampling session for the over eighty young Tennis players who participated in the inaugural competition.

The Grassroot Tennis Club began its operations in February this year with the main aim of providing free Tennis coaching to young players who could not afford the fees at the other Tennis schools. (RT)
