The visiting STAG Barbadian Table Tennis team, which was the guest of the Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy, emerged as tops in a friendly meeting last weekend.{{more}}
The Bajans on opening night, Friday, saw off their opponents 3-1. The lone Vincentian victory came through Kavir Gaymes who beat Rashad King 11-8, 13-11, 11-7.
Chalking up wins for the visitors were Xavier Duncan over Dominic Evans, 11-5 , 11-6 ,11-3, while Mario Haynes beat Jabarri Jack, 12-14, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11- 8, and Duncan beat Gaymes, 11-6, 11-7, 10-12 , 5-11 ,11-4.
It was the same scoreline in match two.
Gaymes beat Romano Mc Lean, 9-11, 3-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-5. Duncan whipped Jack, 9-11 ,11-8, 11-7,11-8. Shaquille Branch smothered Jovan Carrington, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9, and Duncan beat Gaymes, 11-9, 6-11, 8- 11, 11-8.
On the final night on Saturday, the Academy lost luv -3. Haynes beat Gaymes, 11-9, 11-8, 13-11; Mc Lean beat Dominic Evans, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5, and King got past Jack, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9.
In the Open Singles semi finals, Gaymes stopped Haynes, 11-7 , 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, and Duncan stopped Mc Lean, 11-9, 8-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7.
In the finals, Duncan defeated Gaymes, 6-11, 15-13, 11-8, 7-11, 11-3, in a spirited comeback by the latter.
Sean Stanley, whose brainchild it was, indicated that a reciprocal visit is planned for next month. (RT)
