The brief handing over ceremony took place at the Dauphine Community Centre, in the constituency of West St. George.

Making the presentation was long-standing President of AVESCO, Cecil Mc Kie.

The bubbly Mc Kie in his brief talk said that the donation was like “getting back to basics”, as it involved two of the oldest community organizations in St. Vincent and the Grenadines forging closer bonds.

Mc Kie said that part of the objective for the provision of the board is to create a social outlet for the youths of the area, as well as those advanced in age, in regular meaningful engagements.

Mc Kie also challenged the members of TPBO to produce two masters players soonest, to square off with his organisation’s top two players, in some friendly rivalry.

He also commanded the recipients to endeavour to produce two young Table Tennis players in the shortest possible time, to go forth to the national Junior competitions.

And, former national Table Tennis player, Joseph Carrington, has been the person earmarked to conduct coaching sessions with the prospective Table Tennis players.

Curtis King of TBPO, who accepted the board on his organisation’s behalf, thanked AVESCO for its gesture and projected that the sport will once again become a vibrant sporting discipline in the community.

King revealed that during the 1980’s, the late Jim Maloney made a similar presentation to TBPO, which helped in producing some above average players.

The presentation has the blessing of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association, which was represented by the association’s Secretary, Paul Velox.

On the offering table of the national association to TBPO is assistance in coaching, through the National Olympic Committee’s Grassroots Programme.

Velox, in his capacity as Secretary, assisted TBPO’s cause by chipping in with a quantity of balls and a few rackets.

The presentation was witnessed by representatives of sporting organizations in the Dauphine area. (RT)
