The Jamaican sprinting sensation put on another amazing performance at the world championships Sunday, shattering his own world record in the 100 metres by .11 seconds to take it down to an almost inhuman 9.58 seconds.
American Tyson Gay was second in a time of 9.71, with Jamaica’s Asafa Powell claiming bronze in 9.84. Bolt, who turns 23 years old today, Friday, was out of the blocks with the field and within 20 metres of the start, appeared to have control.
Both Bolt and Powell celebrated with dance moves inside the stadium, while the crowd cheered.
Daniel Bailey from Antigua and Barbuda was fourth in 9.93 and Richard Thompson from Trinidad and Tobago was fifth in a similar time. Marc Burns from Trinidad finished seventh in 10 flat, also from the twin island republic, emphasized the growing dominance of Caribbean athletes at the sprints.
