Joel ‘Big Tony’ Francis comes good at last in BCL
After a twenty year wait, Joel âBig Tonyâ Francis has scored his first century in the Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL).
Playing for Vincentian outfit Stars United, Francis made 109 as his team scored 261 all out. Vin Stanislaus contributed 41 and Joseph Shortte, 36.{{more}} Titus Florence, 5 for 42, Victor Mangal and Henry Fesssal took 2 wickets each, bowling for the St. Lucians.
But St Lucia put Stars Unitedâs bowlers to the sword and replied emphatically with 263 for 2. Libert Serieux blasted a magnificent 165 not out, and Victor Mangal assisted with a well crafted 66 not out.
On Sunday Stars again won the toss and once more took strike, scoring 108 all out. Iva Martinâs 28 was the only score of note.
Leonard James took 5 for 15, Kenrick Latouche, 2 for 25, and Lester Douglas, 2 for 25.
Grenada, 111 for 1. Leonard James made 46 not out and Reggie Murray, 38. Bruno Henry, 1 for 10.
Cavalier, another Vincy representative, came up against Punjab. Punjab batted first and scored 201 in 30 overs. Bilal Ahmad, 32, Qasim Gooman, 30, Shaoid Barbar Chowdery, 30 not out, and Waseem 30. Former St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies fast bowler Cameron Cuffy picked up two wickets.
Cavalier was 81 for 6 wickets when the rain came pouring down, Punjab won the match by a faster run rate in the first 15 overs.
And, Imperial went one up when they won their game against Shaheen. Imperial scored 191 for 8 in 35overs.
Former St.Vincent and the Grenadines players Clarence Wyllie made 67 and Colville Browne, 28.
Shaheen, Ali Imtaz was the most successful bowler, with 3 for 34.
Shaheen in their reply, were skittled out for 93. Orient Bostic picked up 3 for 29 and Browne, 2 for 15.
This fourth of July holiday weekend sees on Saturday Middlesex, also of Vincentian origin, taking on Diplomats at Marine Park C and on Sunday faces Warriors at Far Rockaway.
Cavalier is scheduled to play Pak X1 and Diplomats at Far Rockaway and Marine Park C, on Saturday and Sunday respectively, as they have back to back games.
On Sunday Stars United plays Scorpions at Far Rockaway. The other Vincentian team Imperial is off this weekend.(RT)
