Filling the void left by the inactivity of the parent body, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association, the four-member team Xcel team is flying the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines high.

The team, which departed St. Vincent last week Thursday, includes Shane Latchman, J’rai Joyette-Da Silva, Zachery Williams and Julio Francis.

Latchman, with a world ranking of 1471, competes in the Under-18, with Da Silva, Williams and Francis battling in the Under-14’s.

Last Saturday and Sunday were set aside for qualifying play, while the main draw commenced last Monday.

Head of the delegation and Coach Samantha Goodluck told SEARCHLIGHT that her Tennis Academy is using every opportunity to get its players into competitions so that they can get more exposure.

Goodluck said that over the Easter vacation they were also part of the Easter Barbados Championships, which was an IBM ITF outing.

She said that the players’ participation was made possible through fund raising events, help from private sponsors and input from parents. (RT)
