Victors triumph

The name Victors has become synonymous with winning Twenty/ 20 cricket competitions here in St. Vincent and Grenadines.

And, the streak was extended in New York last weekend, when Victors, a team of past national players, maintained the Vincentian identity, winning the Hossain Twenty/20 competition in style at Marine Park, Brooklyn.{{more}}

It was redemption for the Vincentian sporting community, who saw the flagship team Cavaliers falter in the Brooklyn Cricket League, failing to secure any of the top prizes.

Playing unbeaten in the competition, Victors won their semi final over Pak Shazi. Victors scored 152 for 6, with Mc Neil Morgan scoring 40, Casper Davis, 35, and Dominic Audain, 32.

Marcus Bethel, with figures of 6 for 18, restricted Pak Shazi to 82 all out to set up a final meeting with Pak America later in the day.

Victors did not disappoint.

Esnod James lashed 36, Mark Audain, 24, as Victors reached 147 for 7.

Then the father and son duo of Mark and Dominic Audain and Esnod James, backed up by some good out cricket, saw Pak America crawling to 126 for 8 in their allotment of 20 overs.

The previous weekend, Victors beat Brooklyn Sharks by 163 runs, then followed that up with a 42 run triumph over Victory.

In both fixtures, Tesheira was the batting hero. He struck 45 versus Brooklyn Sharks to be the leading scorer, and against Victory, stroked 82 not out.

Victors, with a trophy, a cash prize and bragging rights, can boast as the champion of the Hossain Twenty/20 competion, which brought an official end to the cricket season in the Brooklyn area.(RT)
