SVGCA constructing concrete cricket pitches

The concrete pitch at South Rivers was completed two weeks ago, and is now ready for use by cricketers in the area.

This is the first of twelve such pitches that the Association will put down at playing fields in various parts of the state, using funds allocated under the Stanford development programme.

The Association has already obtained permission from the National Sports Council, to construct these pitches.

Elson Crick, the 1st vice President of the Association, said that his executive is excited about this development.

Crick said that the process of getting the concrete pitches project off the ground had been slow, but he expects an increase in the construction activity.

The pitches are being constructed to the side of the designated playing fields, and will not in anyway hinder the usage of these fields for other sports.

Crick feels that these pitches will play a critical role in the development of the game of cricket in the rural areas.

“We need all weather facilities in these areas so that our young people and their coaches could go and develop their game” Crick added.

Some of the areas earmarked for the concrete pitches include Stubbs, Bequia, Petit Bordel, Cane End and North Union.
