Kerion Pollard is happy, ecstatic, overjoyed that he has made it into the West Indies World Cup cricket squad; he is however far from satisfied!

“I am hungry, I am in this thing for life, so I can’t feel content to just be on the squad,” the confident 19-year-old Trinidadian said.{{more}}

Pollard told SEARCHLIGHT that he is determined not to be a one hit wonder; a player who rises with haste to the top and disappears as quickly, without stamping his name in the annals of history.

“It is according to how bad you want your career and I want it bad,” said Pollard.

Pollard represented the West Indies at the Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2006 but it was his breath-taking, savage, beating of Nevis bowlers at the Stanford 20/20 tournament that trumpeted his arrival into the cricketing world. His inning of 83 runs from 38 balls, with 7 sixes and 4 fours spoke volumes about his potential.

A century, on debut, against the highly touted pace attack of Barbados in the first round of the Carib Beer series just added to the hype, but Pollard says that getting swell-headed is not on the cards.

“I can’t afford to get swell headed, I have a long career ahead of me, I plan to be on the team for the next fifteen years,” he said with the same cool and confident manner that has seen him excel and cause bubbles of anticipation in the hearts of West Indies fans the world over.

He made it clear that he doesn’t intend to be branded as a one day player because he has every intention of breaking into the West Indies test team.

“Although I am aggressive, it doesn’t mean I can’t adjust to situations and apply myself in the longer version of the game, so I am really avoiding that branding,” he stressed.

The ambitious young man, who says that overall support from his teammates, family, friends and his hard work have brought him this far is committed to excelling, taking one step at a time to the pinnacle of West Indies and world cricket.

Although mega stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Flintoff and Brian Lara would be all on show, this World Cup could very well turn out to be all about Kieron Pollard.
