Mitchell appointed to FIBA committee

President of the Bequia Basketball Association, Sabrina Mitchell attended the FIBA America Congress in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on June 3, where she was appointed President of the Permanent Commission on Finance and Budget, a committee, which serves in an advisory capacity to, and whose members sit on the FIBA America Central Board. FIBA America represents the 44 member federations on the Americas continent, with jurisdiction from Argentina in the south, all of South America, Central America and the Caribbean, to the USA and Canada in the north.{{more}} (Headquarters are in Puerto Rico.) Mitchell is the first Vincentian to hold a post on this continental administrative body.

She is one of only two women on the Central Board.

Mitchell was also re-elected un-opposed as Secretary General of the regional controlling body of basketball, the Caribbean Basketball Confederation. The elections took place at the CBC general meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Thursday June 1st. Mitchell is elected to serve for four years until 2010.

She travels to Jamaica next week in her capacity as secretary general for the opening of the 18th Caribbean Senior Championships.

Nominations and elections for the Bequia Association are also on the agenda with the Annual General Meeting of the Bequia Association scheduled for Thursday June 8th. This zonal administrative body serves for a two -year term, until June 2008.
