RSVG Police within two days captured two titles of the Western Union Marriaqua Sports Association Netball Championships.

The female officers of the law were first crowned Knock Out winners last week Friday, with a 61-52 triumph over High Park United, relieving them of the title they held last year.

Then on Sunday, they again upstaged High Park in a thrilling final for the league title. ##M[more]##

Police shot out in front taking the first quarter 14-12, but with the combination of former national guru Skiddy Francis-Crick and the lanky Nicolette King, High Park gained the ascendancy and ended the half with a two point lead, 29-27.

Police had reinforcement from Goal Shooter Michelle Francis, who matched her sister at the other end, coupled with some unforced errors from High Park. They snatched a 45-42 cushion going into the final quarter.

But with the agility and accurate passing of the heavyset Kaylene Thompson, High Park stormed back to level the score at 62, and into over time.

A glimmer of hope held for the home team, as support was vociferous and spontaneous at the Richland Park Government School Hard Court.

But it took three periods over extra time before a winner was determined. The first five minutes ended 65-65, the second at 71 apiece, with High Park playing with seven players all the way whittled under the pressure to lose 74-78.

In the process, RSVG Police retained their grip on the league in only their second year in the tournament.

The twelve teams that participated in the championships, as well as the winners in the National Lotteries Authority Football Competition will have a night to savour their moments of glory at the Awards Ceremony tomorrow night at the Marriaqua Community Centre.
