Shane Huggins shines in Junior tennis tourney
The harnessing of young tennis talent was given another lift with the recent staging of C.K. Greaves/Metrocint Insurance National Junior Christmas Tournament, which ended December 22, last year.

When it came to the final round of competition, Kevin Huggins triumphed over Johnathan Perry, to take the Boys Under-10 title. In that same age group, Olivia Hasslam got the better of Halima Michael among the girls.
It was Damani Taylor over Daryl Mac Leish in the Boys Under-12, while Michelle Gun-Munro took the runner-up position for girls.
Gun-Munro took the challenge trophy for her performance and deportment on and off the court.
Shane Huggins, who was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player in the tournament, won the Boys Under-14 and Under-16 categories. He eclipsed Agostini Soleyn in the Under-14 and Justin Gun-Munro in the Under-16s.
Roxanne Russell had it all her way in the Girls Under-14, eventually disposing of Michelle Gun-Munro in that final.
The Boys Under-18 title was taken by Kyle Albert, with Lerissa Morris taking the Girlsâ category.
Huggins and Soleyn combined their efforts to win the Boys Under-14 doubles. The Girls Under-14 and Under-16 Double went to the pair of Roxanne Russell and Daniella Cupid.
Among the Under-18s, Kurtley Jack and Kyle Albert were in the winners row in the Doubles segment, with Morris and her sidekick Jennifer Medford coming out on top in the Girls Doubles final.
Albert, Medford and Fabio Gasparatoo all bade farewell to junior tournament and were awarded for their consistent participation over the years.
Jerand Phills was adjudged the Most Disciplined Player, while the accolade of Most Improved Player was bestowed on Alan Bailey.
