Windwards warm up for One-Day tourney

Grenadian left-hand opener Devon Smith prepared for the regional West Indies One-Day tournament with a knock of 99 in a practice match against Trinidad and Tobago earlier this week. T&T fell for 248, built around Richard Kelly, 72, Daren Ganga, 66, and Dinesh Ramdin, 33. Orlanzo Jackson, Rawle Lewis, Shane Shillingford and Liam Sebastien took two wickets each for the Windwards.

A second match was abandoned owing to rain, with Windwards 16 for 2 off seven overs. T&T scored 204 for 8 off the reduced allotment of 40 overs. Imran Jan, 47, led the scoring with Ricardo Powell, 40, giving support.

Left arm seamer Kenroy Peters, 3 for 41, and Orlanzo Jackson, 2 for 29, were the chief wicket takers.

The Windwards begin their quest for a place in the final against Jamaica tomorrow. The top four teams advance to the semifinal carded for Kensington Oval Barbados October 28 and 29. The final is scheduled for that same venue October 31.

The preliminary round begins in Guyana.
