The players, Kirk DaSilva and Corey Huggins, returned from the 2nd Bermuda International Tennis Federation World Ranking Junior Tournament last weekend, after satisfactory performances.
Huggins improved his world ranking to 895 in the World Juniors, up from 1734 after he reached the semifinals in that tourney.
Meanwhile his teammate Kirk DaSilva managed to reach the quarterfinals in the singles, and the finals when he doubled up with Corey.
Corey started the tournament as the No. 3 seed with his ranking at 1734. He lost to the No. 2 seed, Weston Wendt, 6-2, 6-2.
The Vincy duo defeated the second seeded Justin White and Weston Wendt, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, but went down to Ricardo Velazquez and Gavin Manders, 7-6, 6-3.
DaSilva, playing in his first 18s tournament, enhanced his ranking to 1112.
The team of Huggins and DaSilva has etched its name in the history books by becoming the first local doubles team to make it to the runner-up position in the 18s event.
Coach Nigel Liverpool, who accompanied the players, qualified their outing “a success”.
