After 45 years, King still loves his job at PH Veira

“I love the job, I love the people, I love the boss, because the boss was good to me.”

Those sentiments were expressed by Errol Godfrey King, an employee of the PH Veira and Company Limited, who has been with the entity for almost 45 years.

King, originally from Richmond Hill, but now residing at Calder, works in the cold room of the PH Veira and Company Limited.

He started out at the company pushing a trolley around Kingstown and making deliveries. He told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday that he is very grateful to have worked with PH Veira and Company Limited for so long, despite all the changes.

He said that over the years, many things have changed, but the company remains the one place you can shop for anything you need. He recalls when there was a small wharf opposite the current PH Veira Hardware Store, where cement and lumber were offloaded.

“Changes must be embraced once they are not bad,” King stressed.

Asked how he managed to remain at the PH Veira and Company Limited for so long, King answered, “I didn’t leave because I love the job, I love the people, I love the boss, because the boss was good to me, because he did many favours for me…. He help me build my house, he trust me things to build my house, he lend me money to build my house, he gave me money to build my house and I couldn’t leave. He was a good man. He was over good to me,” King disclosed.

Offering advice to workers, King said, “Do good and be honest and work hard and you would keep a good job for a long time.”

He said he is hoping that the business can go on for many more years to come “with God’s blessings.”

The company will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sunday, June 25.
