PM: Airport Project is opportunity of a lifetime

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is overwhelmed with the Argyle International Airport Project.

“This is an opportunity in a lifetime,” Dr. Gonsalves said last Sunday at Barrouallie. The Vincentian Prime Minister defended the Unity Labour Party’s position on the international airport. {{more}}

According to him, it would cost twice the amount to build the airport at Kitchen. An extension to the E.T. Joshua Airport at Arnos Vale was not pragmatic.

Dr. Gonsalves pointed out that numerous studies had been undertaken in relation to international airport at Argyle.

“This issue has been studied for donkey years,” the Prime Minister noted.

“Government is not a continuing university seminar. You have to study then make decisions,” he added.

Dr. Gonsalves alluded to support from Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, and commitment from the Canadian Prime Minister,

and, if there is any shortfall, Trinidad and Tobago’s Patrick Manning “will finish up,” Dr. Gonsalves indicated.

Prime Minister Dr. Gonsalves is still keeping a secret the amount that Republic of China’s President Chen Shui Bian has committed to the Argyle Airport Project.

“He and I agreed on a sum of money. He has to tell the Parliament what he discussed with me,” Dr. Gonsalves shouted.

The Vincentian Prime Minister, parliamentary representative for North Central Windward, chided the opposition New Democratic Party for their position on international airport development.

He urged the electorate to ensure that they return the ULP to office in order to ensure the fulfillment of the goal of enhanced air links.
