Jurors to get 100% increase in allowances
CITIZENS of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) who serve the Court of Justice as jurors, will now receive a double allowance, from $10 to $20 effective February.
The announcement was made by the recently sworn-in Attorney General, Sarah Louise Mitchell, during her address to the Bar on January 12, 2026 at the opening of the new law year.
The sitting which was held at the High Court was preceded by a ecumenical service at the St Georges Anglican Cathedral, and procession to the High Court building in Kingstown.
Mitchell told the court that it was recently brought to her attention that jurors are paid a stipend for their lunch and travel on the days when they sit, of EC$10 EC a day.
“…[this is] woefully inadequate,” Mitchell stated.
