NEMO continues emergency awareness initiative in the Southern Grenadines

The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), continuing a series of community disaster awareness initiatives, has extended an invitation to residents of Union Island to participate in a three community activities this week. NEMO said in a release that the activities will take place at the Union Island Secondary School from 5:00 p.m each day.

Today, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, there will be Emergency Communication Network Training in the use of HF and VHF Radios to enable communication during emergencies. On Wednesday, July, 23, there will be training in the use and maintenance of equipment such as generators, chain saws, weed trimmers, water pumps, power wash, generator powered and flood lights, among others; and on Thursday, July, 24, 2025 there will be a community meeting to discuss the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season and geological hazards, including tsunamis. NEMO, earlier this month, launched its disaster awareness and preparation Grenadines exercises in Union Island. These will also take place in the other islands of the Southern Grenadines which were devastated during the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024.
