Shackell Bobb sworn in as Senator

St Vincent and the Grenadines ushered in its youngest senator to Cabinet when 30-year-old lawyer Shackell Bobb was sworn in at a ceremony at Government House.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said the ceremony is especially significant since Bobb comes from humble beginnings and is a child of the Government’s education revolution.

“We are having the energy and knowledge and perspective of young people….. (Shackelle Bobb) was about 7 years old.….. when I became Prime Minister, she is now going to sit at the table of governance to make decisions with that same Prime Minister …. it’s amazing, its historic!’

Dr.Gonsalves marveled Bobb worked with number of legal firms and was Legal Officer at the Financial Services Authority before being sworn in as senator. Dr.Gonsalves said Bobb is a well-rounded young woman who has had extensive legal experience, despite her age and would no doubt serve this country well in her new capacity.

Bobb joins newly appointed senator, 33-year-old Benarva Browne who was appointed less than a month ago and the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Keisal Peters, appointed a year ago. Bobb will assume Parliamentary responsibilities in the Office of the Prime Minister.
