Anglicans in the Windward Islands examine social and religious issues at their Synod in St Lucia
Anglicans across the Windward Islands are this week continuing sessions of their 38th Triennial Synod of the (Anglican) Diocese of the Windward Islands.
The Synod which opened on Sunday, October 9 with a celebrated Holy Eucharist at the Holy Trinity Church in Castries, St Lucia ends on October 13.
Bishop of the Diocese, Rev’d C. Leopold Friday delivered the charge to the Synod on Sunday and today, delegates are into day two of their business session.
A release from the Diocesan office said the Synod is being held under the theme: “Called To Serve: Being A Church of Hope.The Synod meets every three years to take counsel for the renewal andtmission of the Church.
The Diocese of the Windward Islands is one of the eight Dioceses of the Church in the Province of the West Indies and consists of three nation states, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada (which includes Carriacou and Petite Martinique) and St. Lucia. In the Diocese these are referred to as Archdeaconries. Clergy and Lay Representatives from the three Archdeaconries are attending the Synod in St Lucia which is meeting under the chairmanship of Bishop Friday.
The Synod is reflecting on discipleship, vocations, the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic, globalwarming, natural disasters including the volcanic eruption, issues surrounding family life, youthministry, human dignity and social issues among others as Anglicans endeavour to chart the way forward for the Diocese for the next three years.
