Two more deaths bring SVG’s COVID19 death toll to 56

NEW COVID-19 POSITIVE CASES

Sixty-three (63) new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from two hundred and twenty-two  (222) samples collected on Monday October 18th, 2021, resulting in a positivity of 28.3%. Three  (3) of the new cases were detected on entry screening in passengers entering via sea and air from  Grenada, the British Virgin Islands and the United States of America. Two (2) of the three (3)  imported cases were unvaccinated. Sixty-four (64) rapid antigen positives were reported from flu  clinics on October 18th, 2021.  

Twenty-nine (29) new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from one hundred and sixty (160)  samples collected on Tuesday October 19th, 2021, resulting in a positivity of 18.1%. Twenty-six  (26) rapid antigen positives were reported from flu clinics on October 19th, 2021. 

HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS 

There are currently three (3) patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility. All  are unvaccinated. Thirty-three (33) patients are admitted to the COVID-19 wards at the Milton  Cato Memorial Hospital. Thirty-one (31) patients are unvaccinated, and one (1) patient is fully  vaccinated and one (1) is partially vaccinated.  

COVID-19 DEATHS 

An 81-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on October 16th, 2021, died on October  20th, 2021. The patient, who was admitted to the COVID-19 ward at the Milton Memorial Hospital,  had no known underlying conditions and was unvaccinated. A 55-year-old female who tested  positive for COVID-19 on October 19th, 2021, died on October 19th, 2021. The patient, who died  on admission to the COVID-19 ward at the Milton Memorial Hospital, had no known underlying  conditions and was unvaccinated. Their deaths bring the death toll from COVID-19 to fifty-six  (56).

COVID-19 SUMMARY 

Thirty-four (34) new recoveries were noted over the reporting period. One thousand six hundred  and ninety-nine (1699) cases are currently active and fifty-six (56) persons with COVID-19 have  died. Four thousand and seven hundred and twenty-nine (4729) cases of COVID-19 and two  thousand, nine hundred and seventy-four (2974) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and  the Grenadines since March 2020.  

In view of the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu and Gamma variants in the community and  the significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, severe COVID-19 disease  and deaths, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by  everyone is strongly recommended. The correct and consistent use of masks, avoidance of crowds,  physical distancing, proper hand sanitizing and immunization with available vaccines have all been  proven to significantly reduce the risk of being infected, getting sick and or dying from the  COVID-19 virus.
