Tropical Shipping supports Good Friday Open Water Race – Bequia

Tropical Shipping has donated $3000 to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation for the Bequia Good Friday Open Water Swim Race on April 10, 2020 Cedric McIntyre, Island Manager – Tropical Shipping presented the cheque to Louise Mitchell, Executive Member of the SVG Swimming Federation on Monday, March 9.

At the presentation, which took place at the Tropical Shipping office, McIntyre stated that over the last two years, Tropical Shipping has been partnering with the SVG Swimming Federation sponsoring the OECS Swimming Trials at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center and now it’s time to take the sponsorship to Bequia.

McIntyre said it was a privilege to be able to make a meaningful contribution to the development of swimming in SVG and that such a donation, which falls under the company’s corporate social responsibility policy emphasizing youth entrepreneurship, sports, learning and educational initiatives.

Mitchell noted that the donation by Tropical Shipping will go a long way to promote Open Water swimming as a viable sport for these islands on the Caribbean Sea. The Federation has promoted open water swimming in communities, in particular those on the leeward coast of islands where we do not have pools but have the ocean.

The Bequia Good Friday race has become an important event on the Bequia Easter Regatta calendar. It is co-hosted by the Rising Stars Swim Club of Bequia and races begin on Princess Margaret Beach and finish at the Almond Tree. This year there will be three races, a 1500 meter, a 750 meters and a 375 meters, enabling many youngsters to take part in the shorter distances.
