Sion Hill Government School now part of Youlou Arts Afterschool Art Club

Fifteen students of the Sion Hall Government School are now part of the Youlou Arts After school Art Club which aims to get the children to use their imagination and have fun while learning.

The Club, launched on January 23, caters to children between 5 and 12 years old. It meets once per week for roughly an hour and a half. The art club provides a space where children can have fun, while developing various skills, such as language, motor, and social skills, a release from the Youlou Arts Foundation said.

“This project has been in the making for a long time. There were many issues which needed to be ironed out. But with steady persistence and armed with the knowledge that implementing an After School Art Club was a terrific idea for children who do not receive a visual arts education at school. The Youlou Arts organizers persisted with great determination.

“They were able to resolve the nagging issues such as transportation, the time and day to offer the program and finding an art instructor, these were some of the main issues which prevented the organizers from moving forward with this project. The persistence of the organizers finally bore fruit, the project finally got on the way,” the release said.

The children are also taught how to make decisions and take risks. Youlou Arts Foundation is focused on getting the children to be inventive, and creative.

The project is financially supported by several local businesses and foundations in the USA including MPB Bank Ltd., St. Hill Insurance, Bernard Hadley, the Grenadine Partnership Fund and the Schleyer Foundation.
