Students Vote

EDITOR: As school gets ready for the new school year responsible students want their voices heard. They want to show their school loyalty by making a contribution to the smooth reopening of school. Beginning with the school compound and roadway, they are voting to help with the cleaning and landscaping. Next will be the cleaning and organizing of their classroom. This is no ordinary cleaning that the janitors do, but involves mopping of floors and wiping of windows. They want to make a clean sweep. They are voting for clubs in the school that will help to maintain a disciplined environment and undertake tasks as assigned by the principal and staff.

They are voting for a school library that would encourage reading. They also vote for all students to have access to the weekly newspapers to practice their reading, expand their vocabulary and perhaps submit their best works for publication.

They are voting for a full time principal and deputy who would look after their interests by being always available to deal with issues, solve problems, cover for absent teachers and establish the good things happening at the school. They are voting for cooperative learning so that every student is guaranteed to learn and none is left behind. They are voting all reading assignments and exercises from their texts to be published at the beginning of the term so they can read ahead and get a head start on what they are expected to learn. They are voting for regular assessment and feedback. They are voting for adequate teaching, revising, practice and testing of Math so that everyone will pass.

They hope that these key issues would earn them stars when their votes are counted.
