The Land of the Blessed – St Vincent and the Grenadines

by Agnessia Cabral

On October 27th,1979 SVG exhaled.
The Windward breeze scales the island with its rich earthy aroma.
Our lady La Soufriere sang for freedom before she rendered herself.
Six months later our people were liberated at last.

Hairouna, Hairouna, Hairouna oh the sweet, lovely Hairouna;
May we never forget thee.
From the hills of Chateaubelair to the Valley of Mesopotamia our land unites and creates a welcoming atmosphere.

The mother of 32 archipelago is the home to deep water corals and shallow reefs.
Reflecting on Mayreaus’ clear turquoise beaches is the epitome of tropical paradise in disbelief.

With claims to be the oldest botanical garden in the western hemisphere, its native and exotic plants encourage our island’s national bird to appear.

Luring in those afar and near to indulge in some roasted breadfruit and fried jackfish after arriving at Argyle International Airport.

I believe with prayer, unity, and great leadership our Honorable Ralph Gonsalves will continue to represent our island with garner credibility. Reminding our people to accept the present moment with great effort and no limits in mind.

St. Vincent, I pledge to thee
Gold nor Diamond we may not see
But the sweet aroma enriches our hearts;
And lay freedom, peace, and love within its path.
