Such crudeness passes for carnival in SVG?

EDITOR: A dear friend sent me a video of carnival activities on the streets of Kingstown. I watched it because I wanted to be as fair as possible in my comments. I have not seen such lewd and lascivious behaviour on public streets for as long as I have lived. I am an old man. Such crudeness passes for carnival in your country.

I hope there are “adults in the room” among organizers to say such vile behavior cannot be tolerated. And for the sake of your carnival brand it should never happen again. I hope there are other Vincentians who are as embarrassed as I am.

Madam Editor, there should be a national outcry against such degradation of the Vincentian I society.

I sent the video to friends, among them were folks from other countries. I really wanted to get their reaction. They all felt as I did. One thought it was vile and nasty. Two could not watch it to the end. One deleted it in disgust. One said how can those young people go home to their families after such abuse of decency.

I have a suggestion for those who feel like me. Leave for the country on the carnival public holiday for picnics with friends. Do so in protest to the youngsters who feel that what they did has social value.

It will be a great lesson for organizers who will suffer financially. Those with a responsible streak who really want to make carnival in SVG a memorable experience will use the great ability which I am sure they have to produce the best carnival in the Caribbean. What I saw was lack imagination as an art form. I am sure what I saw was a disappointment to many who come to beautiful SVG for carnival and not a strip show in public.
