Has the church failed?

Editor: With the increase in criminal activity, the question has been asked frequently: “Has the church failed?”

The church is comprised of all Christians where Christ is the head. Thus it can never fail. Religion however can and is failing. Religion is man made where man sits as the head. In Isaiah 59:1& 2: “Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.{{more}}

So to say that the church has failed is to say that Christ has failed. We know that he can not fail. Religions with its various teachings and sometimes rules may have failed to impact as much as we would expect. But after all, they are man made. But being the church is not a business; rather it is where Christ rules as the head with persons performing different functions in the body of Christ.

According to Matthew 24:12, and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold”. Thus, we are living in the last days. In NOAH’S day all kinds of sin were committed, but it did not mean that Noah failed. Instead we are told that he found favour with God, yet it was only his family that were saved.

We therefore can conclude that men have become wicked. The heart of men has grown cold. We are indeed living in the last days. However, we must never think that the church has failed. It has not and never will fail. Religion will fail, but not the church. People have a choice and many have chosen to turn their backs on Christ and have chosen a life-style of crime.

What is needed is a relationship with Jesus Christ and not a religion. We are indeed a religious nation, but not necessarily a Christian nation. Let us turn our lives over to him for He never fails.
