Editor: As a patriotic Vincentian, proud of our reputation for gratitude, I am exceedingly embarrassed in hearing some very uncouth remarks by an Opposition Member of the last Parliament in a shameful and unwarranted attack on Cuban workers here.{{more}}

It does not take me to say how much the Cuban government and people have contributed to the overall social and economic development of our country. The Argyle International Airport would certainly have not become a reality without Cuban selfless generosity.

This includes the hard work of the Cuban workers, just as their medical personnel have done. In spite of this, there are some here, who bring our country to shame by displaying ingratitude and some strange motive, continuing to cast aspersions on the Cuban workers.

One remembers the same Opposition forces trying to kick up a storm over a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken for Cuban doctors who are contributing multiple times that value to our own development.

The statement by the Opposition MP is tasteless and reveals his own lack of decorum and balance.

I apologize wholeheartedly to the Cuban workers for this outburst and assure them it is in no way representative of the genuine feeling of the Vincentian people.

I do hope that our people would give a proper response next Wednesday.
