Stop all this indiscriminate burning of stuff

Fri, Sept 09. 2011

Editor: In the Barbados Advocate of Friday, September 2, 2011, page 3, there was an article entitled “Ministry to address indiscriminate burning.”{{more}}

It goes on to state that the Ministry of Health was having discussions with the Barbados Fire Service, the Sanitation Service and other stakeholders to address the issue of indiscriminate burning of refuse in Barbados.

A similar problem exists in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and, as in Barbados, it would be to the benefit of all Vincentian citizens and others in SVG if the problem were addressed in SVG.

It is an environmental problem and a health risk and it happens with alarming regularity throughout the nation.

As Minister Innis stated in the article on Barbados “It may be the easy thing for them to do, but when an asthma patient is triggered off, you may very well put someone’s life at risk.”

It is inconsiderate of others to burn refuse, especially in residential areas, when there are other acceptable avenues available for proper disposal.
