Is there really a day of judgment?
24.MAY.11
Editor: May 21 has passed without the turmoil predicted by the US Evangelist. We may all laugh and say he got it wrong, but havenât we all gotten it wrong? We have been waiting for more than two thousand years for the same event. Is there such an event pending?{{more}} I doubt it very much. Each person may have their own day of judgment, but not an event of the magnitude that is being predicted.
Many fail to realize that our religion (Christianity) is one of many that exist throughout the world. More often than not, our religion is determined by the part of the world in which we were born. The truth is they are all beliefs and none can be proven. The followers of each feel that their religion is the correct one. As far as I am concerned, it makes absolutely no difference what religion you adopt. The most important thing is how beneficial that religion is to you.
Christianity is only religion in which followers are awaiting the return of a savior. This has been going on for thousands of years and will go on for thousands more. We cannot go on like this. Other parts of the world are forging ahead with science, while we are being constantly distracted with talk of the end of time. This significantly affects the functioning of the subconscious. Countries with large populations can cope with this, because they usually have a population with diverse thoughts and approaches to life. We need to become a society that reasons instead of just accepting everything that is put to us. I am very happy that most Vincentians seem not to have taken this date seriously.
Consider, when you have a stomach problem and you are approaching the washroom, as you send that message to the mind, the stomach attempts to give out on you. This is a similar response to the constant preaching of the end of time. We have to stop preaching this, because our subconscious reacts accordingly and reduces its creativity.
Have we ever stopped to consider why God no longer openly speaks to anyone as in the Bible days? The truth is, God did not speak openly to anyone. This is not the nature of God. We read stories of persons making offerings of animals and blood to God? Why would God need these things? Were they consumed? If a religion does that today we would accuse them of being devil worshippers. Persons in the past were trying to understand God just as we are still doing today.
I was told that death is as a result of sin; but is this reasonable to believe? A big fish survives by eating small fish and this involves death. Similarly, lions survive by eating other animals.
Our focus has gone from spiritual to material. We simply cannot conceptualize the capability of persons in the past, as a result of their highly spiritual nature. I am however very much concerned that it appears that only men were able to perform these acts. Was it a deliberate attempt to mislead?
We ought focus on the practical life of Jesus and try to understand how he performed what were considered miracles. If you believe in Jesus Christ, then let it build your faith. You ought to live by faith. When you do, you would be able to hear the inaudible, see the invisible and sense that which is insensate. It is only then we can claim to be on the path of Jesus Christ.
