Sir James writes Castro
29.FEB.08
Dear President Castro,
I wish to congratulate you on your personal decision to retire from the active leadership of Cuba.
Yours has been a remarkable career, establishing yourself, in world opinion, as a legend for all time.{{more}} I fondly remember our discussions in Cuba, New York and Grenada. The decisions to facilitate university education for the students of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which you generously arranged, has been a success, producing good results at home.
Thanks, too, for the greetings you continued to send me since my retirement. I trust that as you retire you may enjoy a relaxing and peaceful time ahead.
I am enclosing a copy of my autobiography, âBeyond the Islandsâ, published in London by Macmillan Caribbean and which I hope to have translated into Spanish. You may care to note the reminiscences with you that may be a footprint in the history of our time.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Sir James Mitchell
