Why are we making homos the ememy?

27.JUL.07

Editor: I need a little clarification. Isn’t discriminating against someone because of their sexual orientation in the same vein as discriminating against someone because of their race? You know “heterosexuals are against homosexuals as whites are against blacks!”

All I can say is – look at that! We Vincentians now need an excuse to fight – but why are we fighting?{{more}} To convince ourselves that we are a God-fearing and Christian people? Well in light of the many occasions we remained silent when we needed to protest and speak out against social injustice in our country – us protesting now has no significance. And why the homosexuals, why are we making them the enemies? I mean who are homosexuals hurting? Yes I can just imagine how hard you’re thinking to come up with a plausible response. While you’re at it – think on this – who are the paedophiles, neglectful parents and corrupt state officials hurting? Finding suitable answers is not so difficult now, is it? Now that you know who the real enemies are and what the real issues are, Vincentians liberate yourselves and realise you no longer need an excuse to fight!!

Homosexuality is not the issue, the problem is how we as a nation can turn a blind eye to the paedophiles living next door to us, and the father who abandons his family, and the mother who prostitutes her five-year-old daughter, and the pastor who is committing adultery, and the priest who is molesting the altar servers, and the teachers who are having sexual relationships with the students, and the politicians who are robbing the poor! Hey maybe it is just me, but homosexuality seems to be the least of our problems when we are confronted with these realities.

But again I leave room for human error in my preconceptions.

I mean, if the majority believe then who am I to suggest differently, and if I become a little hypocritical in my thinking I can actually conform to their way of thinking. I mean, if these behaviours do not decay the moral fibre of our ohhh sooo religious nation! I can most definitely see how homosexuality – The Original Sin will!
